Abstract:
The objective of this study is to apply performance-based seismic design methodology to high-rise apartment buildings in South Korea with consideration for collapse prevention levels. The possible issues during the application of this method were studied and suggestions were made based on findings from the performance-based seismic design of a building with a typical multi-walls with the exception of height limit codes. In order to allow this exception, the serviceability and the stability of the ordinary shear wall structure needed to be evaluated to confirm its equivalent performance under South Korean Building Code of 2009. The structure was evaluated on whether is satisfied its performance objectives to withstand Service Level and Maximum Considered Earthquake.
